Beaconnectd was developed by Connxys Technology, Inc., a Santa Barbara-based technology development firm founded in 2010 by Cleveland Motley.
Connxys was founded to solve the airline industry’s lost baggage problem. Our premise was that we could use locational awareness technology and contextual intelligence to prevent bags from being mishandled before that happened.
We developed technology that essentially transformed every bag into a self-aware beacon that knew where it was—without the aid of GPS—and where it was supposed to be at any given point in its journey. If the bag determined that it was not in the correct position, it would automatically notify baggage handlers in order to prevent it from being mishandled.
For that we were awarded six U. S. patents.
Technological Evolution
As capable as our technology was, the devices themselves were too expensive and complex to drive wide spread adoption.
In 2017 we began developing alternative means for locational awareness and contextual intelligence. In 2019 we started to integrate that technology with highly secure communications modules. We explored ways in which such a platform could be used to help solve some of the problems that every hospital in the world faces: how to improve communication in the emergency department, improve operating efficiency, and enhance the patient experience.
The resulting platform was tested in clinical trials in a leading California hospital in Summer-Fall 2023. After successful trials, we are now in contract negotiations with that health organization to install the platform in two of their hospitals.
